Mission Statement
KCSC’s mission is to assist and empower Asian Americans and new immigrants to become well-adjusted and fully contributing members of the United States through social services, education, advocacy, and development of resources.
About This Cause
Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington was founded in 1974 by a pastor and his congregation who made a commitment to provide basic transportation and interpretation/translation assistance to newly arrived visitors and immigrants from Korea. They also helped these newcomers rent apartments, set up phone and utilities services, and enroll their kids in school. Over the past 43 years, KCSC has grown and evolved into the largest bilingual and bicultural Korean social service agency in the DC metropolitan area. KCSC has expanded and outgrown our original name, now providing services to other Asian immigrant communities living in the metro DC area. KCSC has served more than 150,000 Asian American immigrant families since it was founded and currently provides services to about 1,200 Asian Americans a month at four different office locations. KCSC’s headquarters are located in Annandale, VA and we have three branch offices in Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, and Ellicott City in MD. KCSC offers programs in the following areas: comprehensive social services and case management, immigration services, first-time home buyers program, financial literacy classes for adults, adolescents and children, job readiness services, a youth empowerment program, Senior Academy (a continuing education program for seniors), domestic violence survivor assistance and intervention services, elder abuse services, health education and outreach, mental health counseling and psychiatric services, and alcohol and substance abuse counseling. KCSC also offers affordable healthcare services through three community clinics – Grace Clinic and Hope Clinic in VA and KAMMSA Clinic in MD. KCSC actively serves our community members and strives to improve the overall quality of individuals and families’ lives. Over the past four decades, KCSC has expanded services and developed new programs in response to the changing needs of the Asian American community. KCSC’s programs and services are culturally and linguistically sensitive and clients are served by a dedicated and highly professional team of bilingual and bicultural social workers and clinicians.
