About This Cause

"Celebrating 37 years in existence, AHCMC is the designated Montgomery County non-profit agency which provides funds and leadership to support and sustain arts and humanities organizations, artists and scholars, and inspire participation in cultural programming by visitors and residents. AHCMC ensures that Montgomery County has excellent and accessible cultural offerings by: (1) providing services to the cultural community and (2) coordinating initiatives that raise the visibility of our County's rich cultural assets. Activities and Services include: -Managing the Arts and Humanities Collective Impact fund which provides matching funds to creative projects posted to power2give.org/MontgomeryCountyMD, a crowdfunding platform just for arts, history, heritage, and arts education projects. -Distributing the County's arts and humanities grants for individual artists and scholars, emerging and established arts and humanities organizations, arts and humanities programs at schools and community organizations, and the creation of new artistic and scholarly works. -Advocating for the arts and cultural sector as an economic driver bringing in $151M in revenues for Montgomery County and creating a workforce of 3,000 -Providing capacity building opportunities to cultural organizations that inform, enhance and strengthen leadership in the arts and humanities. -Serving the County's diverse residents via free or reduced-cost programs, print and online cultural calendars and directories, festivals, and more. Special programs and opportunities developed for at-risk children and youth, and other underserved audiences in collaboration with social service providers and Montgomery County Public Schools. -Coordinating aggregate buying for cultural organizations to leverage their limited resources. Including: clean energy through Non-Profit Energy Alliance; cooperative marketing buys in local media; development of internet marketing tools such as www.DOandGO.org, an online calendar of events; creating arts education guides for parents of K-12 students; providing professional development opportunities. -Providing in-school arts residences to public and private schools with high FARMS rates. Residencies provided by specially-trained arts integration teachers. Arts integration residencies use the arts to engage students and teachers in explorations of academic subjects such as math and reading. Educators select teaching artist from the Teaching Artist Roster featured at www.creativemoco.com. -Managing the County's public arts program by working with County agencies and developers to build community identity and create unique places. Using technology to create a public art cell phone tour. -Supporting and sharing the stories of the County's native-born and international folk and traditional artists via a multimedia website www.montgomerytraditions.org."
