Mission Statement

The Baltimore Museum of Industry celebrates Maryland’s industrial legacy and shows how innovation fuels ongoing progress. Our exhibitions, educational programs, and collections engage visitors in the stories of the people who built Baltimore and those who shape the region’s future.

About This Cause

Founded in 1981, the BMI celebrates Maryland’s industrial legacy and shows how innovation fuels ongoing progress. Our exhibitions, educational programs, and collections engage visitors in the stories of the people who built Baltimore and those who shape the region’s future. Driven by this mission and our goal of providing the community with the best educational experience possible, the BMI has grown into a major cultural center on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Each year the BMI serves tens of thousands of visitors, roughly half of whom are students, teachers, and chaperones who benefit from the museum’s award-winning curriculum-aligned educational programs. BMI visitors also take advantage of many other services provided by the museum, including nearly two dozen permanent exhibitions; a rotating schedule of temporary exhibitions; a diverse array of public programs and special events; the popular Maryland Engineering Challenges; and a full catalog of technology education training courses.
