Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our vision is a world in which everyone has a decent place to live. For more than 40 years, Habitat Chesapeake has been a catalyst for moving low-income families toward more stable futures through affordable homeownership. We have built more than 811 homes and settled deserving low-income families into energy-efficient, affordable homes with zero-interest mortgages. Our mission has improved the lives of more than 2,500 partner family members (more than half of whom are children), involved more than 7,000 volunteers annually, and assisted hundreds of community residents who benefit from safer, more vital communities as homeownership rates increased across 20+ neighborhoods in Central Maryland.
About This Cause
For low-income families, the two biggest barriers to receiving a traditional mortgage loan include credit and the ability to make a down payment. Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake partners with hardworking men and women who make enough money to pay a monthly mortgage, but not enough to qualify for traditional bank loans. In support of recruiting, engaging, educating and supporting low-income homebuyers, our key service programs include: Home Rehabilitation and Construction Financial Literacy Education Credit Remediation Post-settlement Support Volunteer & Community Engagement ReStore, a Social Enterprise
