Mission Statement
The mission of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Prince George’s County, MD, Inc. (NAMI) is to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families impacted by mental health conditions through support, education, community outreach, and advocacy.
About This Cause
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for persons and their families who are affected by mental illness. Founded in 1979, NAMI has affiliates in every state and the District of Columbia across the country. NAMI members and partners work to fulfill the mission by providing advocacy, research, support and education. NAMI’s activities include providing free public education and information; providing peer education, encouragement, and support; promoting awareness of mental illnesses and brain disorders and fighting related stigma; advocating for greater access to quality mental health services, more employment opportunities, and affordable housing. NAMI Prince George’s County, the local affiliate, a nonprofit (501c3) organization, serves as the “County’s Voice on Mental Illness.”
