Mission Statement
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Richmond (RMHC Richmond), is a non-profit organization that provides a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families. Circumstances that bring our families here are unfortunate, challenging and often times tragic. Amidst the uncertainties and fears they face, we offer respite, normalcy, compassion and love. Our goal is to ease the burden so that they can stay together and focused on what matters most: their child's well being.
About This Cause
RMHC Richmond is an independent, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, operated by a local Board of Directors. For more than 40 years, our approach has been to think locally by tailoring our programs to address the most urgent needs of the community we serve. While RMHC Richmond cannot make medicine taste better or take away painful treatments, we can ensure that hundreds of families a year have the stability and resources they need to keep their child healthy and happy. RHMC Richmond is a home for families with children being treated in any Richmond area hospital. The house can sleep up to nine families at a time and offers all of the comforts and amenities of home. In addition to the cornerstone House program, we support RMHC Family Rooms at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU and Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital. These rooms, located within the walls of the hospital, offer respite for families of the most critically ill children. Providing even more in-hospital support to families, through our Happy Wheels and Lunches with Love programs, we bring hospitality carts offering activities, snacks, lunches and toiletries to families and patients in the pediatric units of Richmond hospitals. In 2020, our in-hospital programs shared 640 lunches a month, and 690 Happy Wheels kits month. And, overflowing our capacity at the house, each month we lodged an average of 10 families in hotel rooms providing 200 nights of care off-site.
