Mission Statement
Housing Up builds thriving communities in Washington, DC by developing affordable housing and offering comprehensive support services to homeless and low-income families. We believe that people who have safe, affordable housing and genuine opportunities are empowered to transform their lives.
About This Cause
Founded in 1990, Housing Up began as a transitional housing provider serving 14 families in one building on the corner of Georgia Ave and Kennedy St NW. Since then we have grown to serve more than 900 families in a range of housing programs across the District. Housing Up is recognized as a lead homeless housing and services provider in the District and provides permanent supportive housing (PSH, which serves chronically homeless families with mental or physical health disabilities), rapid re-housing and affordable rental housing with case management and resident services to close to 900 families. Housing Up follows the Housing First model, which focuses on quickly moving families experiencing homelessness into permanent housing with leases in their own names, and then providing support services. Housing Up’s comprehensive support services help transition families from homelessness to housing and economic stability. Services offered include education and job training, youth enrichment, clinical services, housing counseling and more. As recognition for our proven track record in housing and supporting families, we have been awarded contracts to expand both our permanent supportive housing and rapid re-housing programs, enabling us to serve more families in the District.
