Mission Statement
The mission of the LSF is to provide opportunities for a strong academic foundation for underserved PreK-12th grade students of Hispanic descent and their families to promote higher education and professional leadership. The organization provides year-round, out-of-school-time programs for low-income, at-risk students and their families with the goal of increasing levels of educational attainment in the community.
About This Cause
The LSF offers seven programs under three programmatic areas: post-secondary success, academic support, and family resources. These three initiatives work in concert to encourage a college-going culture from a young age while building a strong community that will sustain the program’s successes for generations to come. Post-secondary success includes: Te Guio, a year round mentoring program; Listo, an after school college prep program; and Listo Rapido, a summer college prep boot camp all designed to increase high school graduation rates and promote college enrollment. Academic support includes the PreK-12 Tutoring program that reinforces math and English skills. Finally, family resources include English as a Second Language and Computer classes that are designed to help parents navigate work, home and life experiences, as well as the Access program designed to guide parents through the school application process. By providing opportunities for the families to learn alongside their children, the LSF is able to set multiple generations on the path to success.
