The Samaritan Community is a human services non-profit organization with a mission to provide assistance to individuals and families who are in crisis and wish to improve their lives. Our program is rooted in respect, hope, and healing.
About This Cause
It is a pleasure to introduce you to The Samaritan Community. Started more than 40 years ago, we are a non-profit 501c(3) organization, located in the Bolton Hill section of Baltimore City. With our mission to provide assistance to meet the needs of families and individuals who are in crisis and wish to improve their lives, the programs of Samaritan Community are rooted in respect, hope and healing. The vast majority of members reside in Baltimore City Proper. We offer seven core services. Whether used individually or in conjunction with one another, and coupled with the strong emotional support and sense of community found here, we work with clients on their journey to stability. Our core services include: Food Pantry Clothing Shop Case Management Emergency Financial Assistance Individual Empowerment Counseling Group Support Life Enrichment We are a small organization with a BIG impact in Baltimore, and work on the guiding principle that "the client is the program". We do not serve any one population nor do we address any one area-of-need specifically. Rather, our only eligibility criteria are the vital needs of those who turn to us for help. In 2023, we helped people who needed help for a short time, thus preventing a temporary setback from snowballing into a catastrophic life event and erasing the success they already worked so hard to achieve. We also worked with households looking to rebuild and thus needing most, if not all, of our services for a longer time. No matter the reasons or obstacles, our goal for all members is for them to achieve greater stability for themselves, their families, and ultimately, their community. In 2023, through the support of donors and friends, we were able to: - Work with 315 households, impacting an estimated 685 men, women, and children - Distribute nearly 2,900 bags of groceries, most of which included fresh produce, breads, dairy, proteins, and shelf-stable items through 680 pantry visits across 220 households - Hold nearly 1,000 case management sessions to help members with challenges related to housing, utilities, medical care, transportation, employment, education, supplies, and more - Provide 660 individual empowerment counseling sessions to help members address, heal, and move forward from difficult challenges, pasts, and traumas - Distribute more than $300,000 in financial assistance for critical needs including (but not limited to) housing, utilities, employment, education, transportation, medical care, legal help, supplies, and more - Helped 190 households access gently-used clothing and household items for the entire family, free-of-charge, through our Clothing Shop - Welcome members to our weekly Wednesday Club to help members combat isolation, stay connected, and build support networks For more information on The Samaritan Community, please visit us at samaritancommunity.org, like us on Facebook at facebook.com/samaritancommunity or call our Development Office at 443-438-9286.
