About This Cause

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and carries out programs to support survivors, educate the public, prevent sexual violence, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org and rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country. Since 1994, RAINN’s victim service programs have served more than 3.2 million individuals. Victim Services: Launched in 1994, the National Sexual Assault Hotline (NSAH) offers confidential support services, available 24/7, to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Launched in 2006, the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline (NSAOH) was created in order to evolve with technological advancements and visitor needs and was the very first secure online crisis intervention service in the United States. The award-winning online platform is anonymous, secure, and available in both English and Spanish, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In 2018, RAINN launched “HelpRoom,” an online moderated peer-to-peer chat service for survivors looking to support and connect with one another. In 2019, RAINN implemented HelpRoom technology, hosting, and training, at no charge, to more than 60 sexual assault service providers that serve unique populations across the United States. In 2020, RAINN launched a mobile app to give survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones access to support, self-care tools, and information to help manage the short and long-term effects of sexual violence. Public Education: RAINN’s extensive public education programs are the nation’s leading source for information about sexual violence. Our PSAs and work with media and the entertainment industry educates more than 130 million Americans each year. We work extensively to change the way the public perceives and responds to sexual violence and offer vital resources to those in need. Some recent work includes: ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, CBS TV Studios and Netflix’s Unbelievable, HBO’s Leaving Neverland, and Lifetime’s Surviving Jeffrey Epstein. RAINN educates millions of college students about sexual violence prevention and healing through RAINN Day, an annual day of awareness, and works year-round with national sorority and fraternity organizations to influence members to be leaders and allies on their campuses. RAINN works to elevate the voices of survivors from all across the country through our national Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau consists of more than 4,000 survivors, representing a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, who volunteer to share their stories to help them on their healing journey, and change the way America understands and speaks about sexual violence. Public Policy: RAINN advocates at the state and federal levels to improve the criminal justice system, ensure more perpetrators are brought to justice, and help victims of sexual violence access the services and support they deserve. RAINN has been instrumental in helping pass landmark federal legislation such as the Debbie Smith Act, the SAFER Act, the Justice for All Act, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). We work on a host of collaborative efforts in order to advance our cause from different vantage points, and RAINN has twice been honored by the bipartisan leadership of Congress. RAINN staff has sat on the congressionally-mandated Volunteer Sexual Assault Advisory Council for the U.S. Peace Corps, the Department of Transportation’s National In-Flight Sexual Misconduct Task Force, and the Department of Justice’s National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women. RAINN works with state lawmakers across the country to ensure that all survivors, no matter where they live in the U.S., have access to justice. Rainn.org maintains the most up-to-date information on sexual violence laws in the United States. Consulting Services: RAINN works with scores of clients across the private, public, and direct service sectors to develop effective sexual violence education and response programs. RAINN prepares clients with a variety of specialized consulting services to meet each organization’s unique needs, including hotline services, program assessments, therapy fund programs, and targeted training. RAINN’s client list includes the Department of Defense, FEMA, Girl’s Inc., Uber, McDonald’s, Royal Caribbean Inc., and Massage Envy. We cannot do this alone. RAINN depends on the generosity of supporters like you to ensure our ability to continue to grow, evolve, and be there for survivors, today and every day. Your contribution will directly support our ability to lead the national effort to combat sexual violence. If you need help donating or have any questions about our work, please contact development@rainn.org. We’re here for you, today and every day.
