Mission Statement
Founded in 1997, Prostate Cancer Resource, a bona fide volunteer-run 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization is providing two key essential services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our top priority is the health and welfare of local prostate cancer patients in-treatment and survivors, who maybe at a higher-risk for life-altering complications from COVID-19. The key essential services are: * Free distribution of two thousand face shields to protect against flying respiratory droplets, as from coughs and sneezes, that can transmit the COVID-19 virus. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Apple Inc., for their generous donation of the face shields, designed by their engineering department for medical doctors, nurses and essential workers on the frontline. Apple's recognition is a testament of our vision and commitment towards achieving our goals to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus among the frail, elderly with stage 4 cancer and survivors. * Distribution of free medically prepared meals in pre-package containers that could be reheated and non-perishable food items. The pandemic is creating food insecurity and the demand have skyrocketed among lower-income prostate cancer patients and survivors, experiencing untold economic hardship resulting in a sharp rise in hunger and malnutrition. Nutrition is an important part of cancer treatment and eating the right kinds of foods when undergoing chemotherapy can help fight fatigue, boost bone health and stay stronger. We have a moral obligation and duty to feed the hungry and sick as Jesus preached. "For I was hungry; and you give Me food; I was thirsty; and you give Me water" (Matthew 25: 35-36). For the duration of the "hunger" pandemic, every Fridays, starting Friday, June 26, 2020, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. we will deliver free medically prepared meals, door to door, to local seniors with chronic health issues, facing hunger and malnutrition, for the first time in their lives. Each emergency food package provides a minimum of seven days' worth of nutritionally balanced food.
