Mission Statement

Paideia Inc. DBA New York Encounter is an annual three-day public cultural event in the heart of New York City. The Encounter strives to witness to the new life and knowledge generated by the faith, following Pope Benedict XVI's claim that "the intelligence of faith has to become the intelligence of reality." In pursuit of this goal—and according to St. Paul’s suggestion to "test everything and retain what is good"—the Encounter aims to discover, affirm, and offer to everyone truly human expressions of the desire for truth, beauty, and justice. The Encounter, thus, becomes a meeting point for people of different beliefs, traditions, and cultures striving for reciprocal understanding, mutual building, and true friendship. Through a vast array of conferences, artistic performances, and exhibits, The Encounter is both a dwelling place and a point of departure for men and women wishing to live fully and to promote a society of truth and love.

About This Cause

Gratuitousness and charity are central features of the NYE not only for volunteers, but for the event as a whole. This characteristic is evident in a variety of ways: · Entry is entirely free of charge (with the exception of one musical performance) to whoever wishes to attend, regardless of economic or religious background. All events are open to the public. There is no need to pre-enroll or register to attend any event. · In addition to their work during the event, many volunteers also offer their expertise on a year-round basis without pay. Frequently, they are not reimbursed for expenses involved in creating exhibits and they offer these expenses as a donation. · Keynote speakers, including those who are well-known, nationally recognized, or even Nobel prize winners, are asked and agree to speak free of charge. (They are reimbursed for travel and lodging.) Speakers are willing to come because they are intrigued and are attracted by audiences and young people that share their fascination. · No payment is asked of people at the exit in the form of adherence to a political agenda, ideology, or product support. The NYE is also able to be offered free of charge because groups of volunteers, CL members, from all over the country hold local events to build awareness of the NYE and to raise funds to support the event. Regional fundraising events take place regularly since 2016 in Miami, Indiana, California, Texas, Arizona and other locations. The central NYE office in New York City stays in contact with volunteers with regular newsletters, social media and provides these communities with promotional materials, advice, and material. This dedication cannot help but raise the question, what makes them do this? And how can they sustain it? People need an experience of ongoing satisfaction or purpose that becomes part of daily life to maintain this level of commitment. These sacrifices are possible only out of the profound personal motivation, a gladness and gratitude for what they have received.
