About This Cause
Ashiyanaa, Inc., formerly known as ASHA for Women, is a 501(c)(3) based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Founded in 1989, Ashiyanaa provides culturally sensitive services to South Asians with origins in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Our services include Intimate Partner Violence ( domestic violence), services to seniors, children and Youth, and programs dealing with awareness and prevention. Our mission is to “Empower South Asians to lead peaceful lives with dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive, culturally-sensitive services.” We are proud members of United Way (#9371) and the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #88808). Platinum Rating earned on GUIDESTAR awarded to only 14,110 out of over a million nonprofits listed, attests to our total commitment to transparency as an organization. For 2022, 91 cents on every dollar donated goes directly towards our program. Programs Intimate Partner Violence ● We provide case management and coordination by: determining the individual needs and developing and implementing customized solutions with the client ● We assist with emergency survival needs, safety protocol, therapeutic and career counseling ● We provide referrals to legal and health services. Senior Services ● We assist Seniors and their caregivers in accessing government benefits ● We provide opportunities for Senior socialization through online platforms and activities Children & Youth ● We provide support to children and adolescents facing acculturation issues, discrimination, and cultural and language barriers. Awareness & Prevention ● We pursue outreach activities to stimulate healthy communities and relationships. ● We offer cultural competency training to government and non government organizations ● We provide awareness and prevention workshops and presentations to South Asian professionals and community members. Partnerships & Collaborations ● We strive to build partnerships and collaborations with State and County Government Organizations, Community based and faith based organizations, educational institutions and social services organizations to better serve all our clients. How we Help Our program includes: Helpline (Confidential, Safe, and Secure) Case Management - all clients are matched with a trained (by Fairfax County) and culturally competent advocate. Keeping our holistic approach in mind, we determine the individual needs of the client, develop and implement customized solutions with the client; including, assistance with emergency survival needs, safety protocol, and referrals to psychological and legal services. We provide a space for support and interest groups. Awareness and Partnerships We partner with the state, counties, social service agencies, and other community organizations to best serve our clients. We organize trainings on the following topics: cultural competency, language interpretation, healthy family relationships, warning signs of abuse, safety protocols, etc. We spread awareness through community outreach, newsletters, blogs, social media, etc.
