About This Cause
Theater Alliance has been a cornerstone of innovation, activation, and diversity in the arts, building a strong reputation in DC’s cultural landscape for over two decades. The company develops, produces, and presents socially conscious, thought-provoking theater that fully engages the community in active dialogue. By creating an audience laboratory, Theater Alliance fosters face-to-face conversations where the diverse perspectives of DC unite to confront issues and tackle difficult questions impacting the community. Engaging with audiences and the community through value-aligned partnerships and carefully selected live theatrical shows, Theater Alliance keeps justice at the core of its operations, prioritizes joy, amplifies under-told stories, and explores innovative artistic endeavors. Through its Civic Engagement initiatives, Theater Alliance emphasizes service and civic responsibility, guided by the belief that the arts are crucial for a thriving, equitable society. A proud Core Member of the National New Play Network, Theater Alliance has been twice named a finalist for the Mayor’s Arts Award, received the Capitol Hill Community Foundation’s Keller Award for significant contributions to the community, and received the American Theatre Wing’s National Theater Company grant, and has earned 111 Helen Hayes Award nominations and 15 Helen Hayes Awards. Theater Alliance continues to lead with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling and strives to make audiences and the community feel valued, included, and central to its mission.
