Mission Statement
Art with a Heart, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides engaging, educational and interactive visual arts classes to underserved Baltimore area children, youth and adults in schools, group homes, shelters, community centers, recreation centers, foster care agencies, senior facilities, and hospitals. Founded in 2000, Art with a Heart's mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. In an effort to achieve its mission, Art with a Heart works to harness the benefits of arts education to cultivate positive, long-lasting changes in the lives and communities of its students.
About This Cause
Art with a Heart, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides engaging, educational and interactive visual arts classes to underserved Baltimore area children, youth and adults in schools, group homes, shelters, community centers, recreation centers, foster care agencies, senior facilities, and hospitals. Founded in 2000, Art with a Heart's mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. In an effort to achieve its mission, Art with a Heart works to harness the benefits of arts education to cultivate positive, long-lasting changes in the lives and communities of its students. In addition to its 14,500 annual core programs, Art with a Heart offers the following initiatives: • HeARTworks, a Workforce Development Program, which uses art as a vehicle to teach job skills (73% of HeARTworks students got jobs upon program completion) • Art to Market, which teaches participants to create marketable art which is then displayed and sold to the public • Apprenticeships, which encourage qualified participants to earn money while assisting in HeARTwares and targeted sites • Arts Integration, which provides engaging visual art programs to supplement academic curricula in elementary/middle schools • HeARTwares, Art with a Heart's social enterprise/retail store • Public Art Projects, often in the form of mosaic murals made by community volunteers • Community Service and service learning opportunities • The Art of Leadership program, which introduces and/or reinforces leadership competencies to provide students the skills to help solve community problems and enhance their civic participation Art with a Heart programs enrich students and provide them with opportunities to develop character and skills to help them thrive in a global society. Art with a Heart prides itself on its evolving, innovative mixed media curriculum that incorporates 21st Century Skills and follows the Maryland State curriculum guidelines. At the request of its partners, Art with a Heart can create a customized curriculum based on a specific theme or objective. In general, the vision and goals for its programs are to create meaningful, educational and enriching classes that are aligned to our site partners' objectives. Art with a Heart communicates through monthly e-newsletters, an annual appeal, an annual event, professionally produced videos, press packets, social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram), and local press (tv, radio, and print).
