Mission Statement
The mission of the Four Walls Career and Technical Education Center is to provide unemployed and underemployed District of Columbia residents with basic literacy skills, employability skills, and career and technical education as a means of increasing self-sufficiency and improving quality of life.
About This Cause
Four Walls, a trade school, is a higher-level learning institution that specializes in providing students with the technical skills they need in order to perform the tasks of a particular job. Four Walls work with students to identify strengths and address barriers to self-sufficiency through individual-centered methods, as evidenced by the completion of individualized assessments and the creation of Individual Student Profiles (ISPs). Our objective is to assist students in improving basic and workplace literacy skills as measured by participants’ advancement of at least one skill/grade level on the CASAS Appraisal, Pre/Post-tests, the attainment of a high school diploma, documentation of the acquisition of competencies for employment and advancement, or preparation/entrance into a post-secondary education program. Additionally, we prepare participants for competitive employment in one of the region’s high-demand occupational sectors, the Construction industry, as evidenced by students’ attainment of industry-recognized certifications,internships, mentorships, apprenticeships, job-shadowing opportunities, andemployment placements and/ or promotions. Four Walls offer classes in HVAC, Electrical Wiring, Stationary Steam Engineering (Boiler Operations), Microsoft Office Suite, and CompTIA A+. Additionally, adults who desire to earn their high school diploma can participate in the National External Diploma Program.
