LAY MISSION HELPERS ASSOCIATION

LOS ANGELES, California, 90043-3945 United States

Mission Statement

We are Lay Mission-Helpers, called by baptism to live our Catholic faith, to share our gifts, and to learn from others, as we walk with those who are marginalized in the world.

About This Cause

Founded by Msgr. Anthony Brouwers in Los Angeles in 1955, Lay Mission-Helpers Association makes it possible for Catholic singles, married couples, and families to live and serve in a professional capacity in overseas mission dioceses. Their skill sets are matched with the needs in mission. After attending our four-month Formation Program in Los Angeles, our missioners serve three-year terms. Since our foundation, we have sent over 750 men, women, and families to 37 countries. We were the first program in the United States to send lay Catholics to serve in foreign missions. We work in the areas of education, healthcare, administration, accounting, engineering, and others. We serve people of all faiths, religions, and ethnicities. We strive to make their lives better by creating, in cooperation with local partners, systemic changes that can be sustained with local resources.
