About This Cause
Assumption Church is a Roman Catholic community in the Franciscan tradition. The Franciscan Friars Conventual of Our Lady of the Angels Province together with Franciscan Sisters, lay Franciscans, parishioners and volunteers work together to build a community of faith which is active in service to Syracuse’s Northside community. Assumption Church and its outreach ministries, brings the Gospel message of peace, reconciliation and love to our neighbors on Syracuse’s Northside in the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi. Like many cities, Syracuse has growing number of residents who lack a hope and meaning as well as the most basic requirements to survive, such as food, clothing, medical care, and in many cases, simple compassion. In 1998, in response to worsening conditions, Syracuse’s then Bishop James Moynihan asked the Franciscan Friars Conventual to intensify their presence in the Syracuse Diocese in order to address some of its growing problems. The Friars, whose history in Syracuse dates back more than 150 years, responded by collaborating with the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities in Syracuse.
