About This Cause
The Poe Museum in Richmond, VA, began in 1922, dedicated to collecting the works and memorabilia of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe, known as the Master of Macabre, America's Shakespeare, Father of Detective Fiction was a leading author 19th century author who pushed the boundaries of literature, shaping it into what we know today. Since it's beginning, the Poe Museum has dedicated itself to understanding Poe's influence in modern writing, inspiring all ages to create, write, express, and achieve. We house the largest collection of Poe memorabilia in the world, and encourage new scholarship every day. Our programming has something for everyone, from school groups to garden clubs, and we love to work with teachers to create new and exciting activities.
