Mission Statement

In 1948, Mrs. Anna C. Briggs founded The National Humane Education Society (NHES) as a private nonprofit organization with a central mission “to foster a sentiment of kindness to animals in children and adults….” Sixty-six years later, without financial assistance from local, state or federal governments, she has established a national organization dedicated to direct animal care and national humane education efforts. With more than 400,000 supporters, Mrs. Briggs has stayed her ethical course – to never euthanize a healthy animal.
