Mission Statement
JVG's mission is to keep young people in school through graduation and provide work-based learning experiences that will lead to career advancement opportunities or to enroll in a postsecondary institution that leads to a rewarding career. Utilizing the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Model Programs, JVG delivers a unique set of services to targeted youth in high school, including 12 months of post-graduation follow-up services that will result in the graduate pursuing a post-secondary education and/or entering the workforce in a quality job leading to a career.
About This Cause
Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG) is a statewide program for youth who seek to make the most of their high school education and pursue career and postsecondary educational interests. Through the Senior and Multi-Year Programs, JVG facilitates learning, skill development and community involvement empowering young adults to identify their goals and to define and follow a productive path within which to achieve those goals. As part of a strong national Job for America’s Graduates (JAG) network, JVG-JAG teaches young adults academic and workplace competencies, including Career Development, Job Attainment, Job Survival, Leadership and Teamwork, Communication and Self-Development using JAG’s competency-based curriculum. All students become part of a student-led Career Association which provides opportunities for students to practice and demonstrate the skills they are learning in class. Students will work together to plan career exploration, leadership development, service learning and social awareness activities throughout the school year. Through comprehensive and proven practices, Virginia’s JVG youth experience the value of a high school education while also developing teamwork, leadership, community service, and workplace skills to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities that await them in the world beyond high school. The JVG-JAG opportunity provides: • Classroom instruction in employability skills • Career planning • Leadership development activities • Guest speakers and field trips • College and company tours • Job shadowing • Mentorships • Internship and work experience • Summer employment opportunities • Service learning • Supportive services Staying in school, earning a diploma, and taking that next step into employment or post-secondary education is what JVG-JAG is all about. Our goal is to expand and continue to serve young adults who will become the leaders of our communities in the future. We invite you to contact us with questions or to learn more about our programs.
