Mission Statement

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia (RMHC-SWVA) provides an environment of love, community, and hope to families of seriously ill children. RMHC-SWVA programs give a family with a sick child what they need most - each other.

About This Cause

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia is a locally funded and operated non-profit, which provides the Ronald McDonald House, a comfortable and supportive “home-away-from-home” for the families of sick or injured children who must come to the Roanoke area for medical treatment; and the Ronald McDonald family Room, a respite area for parents to rest and regroup steps away from their child’s bedside. The Ronald McDonald House is located near Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital. With approximately 25,000 square feet, the House has 18 bedrooms each with two queen-sized beds, private bath, TV and telephone. The House also features a kitchen, dining room, library with computer and Internet capabilities, living room, playroom, Magic Room, and laundry facilities for the convenience of our guests. Our service area is 150 miles around Roanoke and extends as far as West Virginia, North Carolina, and Central Virginia. The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a respite area within the Hospital for the parents and families of pediatric patients. The Family Room is located immediately outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; provides light snacks, Internet access and a quiet rest area steps away from bedside. The Family Room is open 7 days a week and is staffed solely by volunteers.
