Carpenter’s Shelter is a Northern Virginia’s award-winning homeless service provider, dedicated to offering housing and hope to homeless families and individuals through our core values of respect, responsibility, and results.
About This Cause
Carpenter’s Shelter supports the families and individuals experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence through shelter, guidance, education and advocacy. Located in Alexandria, VA, Carpenter’s Shelter serves over 1,000 homeless and formerly homeless children, women, and men each year. Carpenter’s Shelter’s comprehensive programs offer continuous services, aiding the chronically homeless and shelter residents through their transition back into independent living. We empower our clients to address the issues which led them to homelessness and provide the tools necessary to achieve lasting independence. By creating an individualized plan for each resident, we ensure lasting success after an individual leaves the shelter. As a result, 93% of those who complete our program never return to homelessness again. At Carpenter’s, residents learn valuable skills which allow them to obtain stable employment and save and budget their income. All residents are required to be clean and sober while staying in the shelter. Under Carpenter's continuum of care, our programs include the following: - Two 64- bed residential shelters housing families and individuals [Hoffman Center and ACS] - David's Place, our day shelter for chronically homeless adults - Winter Shelter, our seasonal (Nov. 1 - Apr. 1) shelter that provides a safe refuge from illness, injury and death during inclement weather - a Community Case Management program providing continued services to those transitioning back into the community - an Education program to help our clients achieve their goals through education and employment - Youth services for children and adolescents residing in the shelter - a weekly Clinic run by volunteer doctors and nurses who provide free medical exams and prescriptions to our uninsured clients
