About This Cause

CID, Inc. (Community in Development) is a 50lc3 non-profit community development corporation located at 1903 Cool Lane in the East End of the City of Richmond established in 1997 to increase the outreach service efforts in meeting the needs of a community disproportionately impacted by stress, trauma, emotional disturbance, and mental illness. The mission of CID, Inc. is to provide services, information, and training that will improve the overall well-being of residents and produce healthier lives, and healthier families. CID, Inc.’s work in the inner-city spans 27 years. Our initial focus was on HIV/AIDS awareness and providing services to persons in the surrounding community infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Funded by VDH since 1999, we have focused on awareness, Case Management, and prevention education in the targeted communities of Fairfield, Whitcomb, and Creighton Courts. Realizing that we serve persons who reside in a “food desert”, our “All About Love Hospitality Center” has served an average of 75-125 persons weekly by providing weekly grocery shopping at the church and bi-monthly supplemental food through the Feed More Food Trailer. On Tuesdays when persons come to shop for food, they are also able to receive additional services, including but not limited to, various health screenings, mental health counseling, clothing, and workforce development opportunities through service navigators and the church’s Eleazar Counseling Center which is under the direction of a licensed and certified family counselor. In addition, our Garden of Hope, a community garden, provides fresh vegetables to members of the church and community. The garden includes fruit trees, a berry patch and six raised gardens where eggplant, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, and other vegetables are grown. With the help of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, a solar powered rainwater harvesting system for the garden was installed. As a result, we received the 2019 Watershed Champion Award from the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. In May 2020, we partnered with the Richmond Fire Department, and City and State leaders to assemble and distribute 20,000 wellness packets to residents and held COVID-19 testing on our church parking lot. When the public schools in Richmond and vicinity closed their physical doors due to COVID-19, Project Stay Connected/Stay on Point, an education lab, was created to assist those students most at risk of falling through the cracks during the transition from in-class to virtual learning. We served 29 students in grades K-7 during the 2020-2021 school year. In June 2021, CID, Inc. developed the Stay Connected/Stay on Point Summer Gathering; an intensive six-week summer program designed to focus on students’ mental, emotional, and academic needs through the use of special sessions designed to improve reading skills, meditation, yoga, art therapy, music therapy, gardening and creative outdoor play. We served 60 students over the past three summers. CID, Inc. has the experience as well as relationships with community partners to address the stress, trauma, emotional disturbance, and mental illness in high-risk populations.
