About This Cause

Jubilee Family Development Center provides educational, vocational, and recreational programs to families residing in Lynchburg, Virginia and the Lynchburg community at large. Our mission is to provide high quality programs that foster personal, social, and spiritual growth and the stability of families. History In 1997, Lynchburg considered by most a sleepy small town nestled into the Blue Ridge Mountains, crime, drugs, and gangs slipped in unannounced. Habitat for Humanity recognized the problem and went against its normal agenda and built more than 100 houses in these troubled neighborhoods. Noticing that there were no programs for the children in the area, a small group of citizens met over coffee with the Lynchburg Habitat Director to discuss the need for a community center – and Jubilee was born. The entire community stepped in and addressed the problem. Together, the citizens of Lynchburg built a center to give children and their families a life with meaning and a way out of poverty. Jubilee opened its doors in 1999 with Phase I, an educational center that is the core and feeder for Phase II and III.
