ASSISI ANIMAL CLINICS OF VIRGINIA INC
Mission Statement
Angels of Assisi is changing the role of an animal shelter to include resources, programs, and services to benefit the pets in our communities and the people who love them. We are an independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving SW Virginia and West Virginia. Along with our Adoption Center and Farm Sanctuary, we offer a Community Pet Hospital, Rural Veterinary Care, Cruelty Investigations, Disaster Response, and a Safety Net Program for those needing temporary help due to domestic violence or emergency situations.

With community support, accomplishments to date include: 90,000 low cost spay and neuter surgeries 12,500 low cost wellness visits 4,500 feral cat sterilizations 10,000 adoptions 1,200 animals rescued from puppy mills, animal control seizures, and hoarding cases Assisi Animal Clinics of Virginia, Inc., operating under the name Angels of Assisi, is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization founded in January 2001. Presently located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia at 415 Campbell Avenue, the organization has served the people and pets of the greater Roanoke Valley for over 15 years. Angels of Assisi seeks to change the traditional definition of an animal shelter by offering services and programs to benefit the community, the people that live there, and the pets they love. The organization operates the largest private animal shelter in the Roanoke Valley, as well as a low cost Community Pet Clinic and farm animal sanctuary. Through the Community Pet Clinic and Adoption Center, Angels of Assisi is able to provide resources to pet owners to keep their pets happy and healthy. The adoption center puts emphasis on these services to help people be able to keep their pets overturning them into the shelter. Angels of Assisi strives to be a resource to the community and also offers services to area and rural shelters to help end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets. Beginning as a mobile spay/neuter shuttle in 2001, Angels of Assisi has grown to become the largest animal welfare organization in the Roanoke Valley whose facilities include a private animal shelter and Community Pet Clinic. Through their adoption center, Angels of Assisi shelters and places over 2,500 companion animals annually, including a program to shelter animals caught in domestic violence and pets of hospice patients. Through its Community Pet Clinic, Angels of Assisi performs over 7,000 low-cost spay/neuter surgeries annually and provides low cost or free veterinary care to over 12,000 pets annually. Angels of Assisi’s adoption center is open 12-6 pm daily. Clinic services are available to anyone regardless of income or locality, by appointment Monday – Friday, 8:30 A.M. – 4:45 P.M., or without an appointment Saturdays 8:30 A.M. - Noon. Through its Pets for Life program, Angels of Assisi keeps pets out of shelters and in their homes. The Pets for Life program targets the lowest income neighborhoods with free access to spay/neuter and other pet services, including veterinary care in order to help keep pets in their home. Traditionally, these low-income areas have the highest intake rates at local shelters due to lack of funding to care for the pet or litters that could have been prevented. The people in these areas still love their pets and just need assistance and access to the resources to be able to care for them properly. Through the reputation of its adoption center and Community Pet Clinic, Angels of Assisi has garnered attention from two of the largest national animal welfare organizations, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Both organizations put their trust in Angels of Assisi to medically treat and place the animals they seize through cruelty or neglect cases and rescue from natural disaster, and have named Angels of Assisi as one of their top response partners nationwide. When there is an animal need in the community, people look to Angels of Assisi for assistance due to the availability of services, and trust of expertise in the field.
