Mission Statement
Any child who has musical potential deserves the opportunity to nurture this talent to its full extent. Many children lack the chance to receive music lessons due to financial need. The MusicLink Foundation reaches out to low income families by linking these students with professional music teachers willing to reduce their fee to make the lessons more affordable for the child. The MusicLink Foundation does not reimburse teachers for this scholarship donation, but supports them in a variety of ways.
About This Cause
The MusicLink Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Arlington, Virginia, with a 30 year program history of developing the talents of promising students in financial need across the US. Quite simply, our mission is to create musicians, one student at a time. We reach students who show musical potential and interest, but who easily fall into the cracks because of the lack of adequate school music programs and an inability to pay for lessons. Financial eligibility for the program is equivalent to the federal free/reduced lunch program. Our MusicLink professional teachers have provided over 600,000 hours of instruction to over 8,000 students, equivalent to $16.5 million of in-kind service to the program. The beauty of the program is its simplicity – simply link a student with a teacher and watch potential grow over years of study. MusicLink can provide $5,000 worth of services for every $1,000 donated because of our in-kind contributions of instruction, instruments, and materials. Our unique mission emphasizes long-term instruction that builds a bond between teacher and student that provides positive mentorship as well as musical instruction. The MusicLink Foundation continually guides student musical progress with ongoing training, provision of instruments, and performance opportunities to build self-esteem and applaud potential. This guidance and assistance is the first step toward a college scholarship or employment in the music business.
