About This Cause
Partner for Surgery works in rural communities of Guatemala that do not have access to surgical procedures and quality medical care. Using rural health promoters and international medical volunteers, medical teams visit rural communities to evaluate patients for surgical needs. Those who qualify are scheduled for volunteer surgical teams working in Guatemala City and Antigua and are escorted by the local health promoters from their communities. These same health promoters contact Partner for Surgery medical director when patient post-operative problems occur and appropriate care is provided. Partner for Surgery also has a Cleft Infant Nutrition Program that provides mothers with lactation assistance and formula, if required. The child health is monitored to assure that the child thrives and qualifies for required corrective surgical procedures.
