Mission Statement
Magical Moments Therapeutic Riding Center is organized exclusively to provide equine services to McDowell County Community and surrounding counties for individuals with disabilities and/or psychosocial needs to achieve increased movement, health, and well being using the benefits of the horse. The therapeutic team will consist of therapists, certified instructors, and volunteers. There will also be carefully selected and trained horses to provide services to individuals with mild to severe disabilities to achieve the physical and physiological benefits. The organization will be a resource to help support community needs within the scope of our expertise. The organization will host training and continuing education needs within the therapeutic community. All funds, whether income or principal, and whether acquired by gift or contribution or otherwise, shall be devoted to said purposes that qualify as Section 501(c)(3) exempt organization.
About This Cause
Magical Moments Therapeutic Riding Center was established as a 501(c)3 organization in 2006. The current President has been working with Magical Moments since 2011. We are providing therapeutic horseback riding servicing to the unique needs of children with disabilities. We serve these children in McDowell County, NC, with the help of community volunteers. This program was started at the McDowell Co. Agricultural Center, a farm in Nebo, NC, and now is using a farm in Old Fort, NC. For our organization's goals and objectives, it is imperative that this program remains open so they can continue to provide this unique and needed services to help disabled and disadvantaged children and adults. Currently 36 children of the approximate 100 children from the practice are provided with physical therapy services on horseback in the spring and the fall only. This, unfortunately, does not allow space for any of the adult clients to also benefit from the horses in their physical therapy. They are limited in growing these needed services (adding in occupational therapy, speech therapy, and mental health therapy), increasing the number of children and adults being served, and offer a year-round program. To become a year-round program we need an expanded facility that includes an enclosed ring. There is an immense need for this program to continue and grow. At the current moment, the new property has cleared 20 acres of land with the building plans for Magical Moments Therapeutic Riding Center to be able to continue such an amazing program as well as make it grow by servicing even more members of their community.
