Mission Statement

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is an evidence-based program designed to cultivate confident, value-driven, community-conscious young women. Through Girl Scouting, girls learn to discover themselves, their strengths, and their values; connect and communicate effectively with others; and take action to implement change in their community.

About This Cause

Girl Scouts has long been a pioneer in acceptance, a beacon of inclusivity, and a stalwart civic advocate to make sure every girl—regardless of her race, religion, orientation, or socioeconomic background—has the opportunity to thrive. Our extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout troop, and every year since, we’ve honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is an evidence-based program designed to cultivate confident, value-driven, community-conscious young women. Through Girl Scouting, girls learn to discover themselves, their strengths, and their values; connect and communicate effectively with others; and take action to implement change in their community. Girl Scouts is proven to help girls thrive in five key ways as they: -Develop a strong sense of self. -Seek challenges and learn from setbacks. -Display positive values. -Form and maintain healthy relationships. - Identify and solve problems in the community. The inclusive, all-female environment of a Girl Scout troop creates a safe space where girls can try new things, develop a range of skills, take on leadership roles, and just be themselves. Here at Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, our Council serves nearly 25,000 girls grades K-12 throughout a 41-county jurisdiction in central and eastern North Carolina. Our goal is to make sure that our leadership development programming is accessible to all girls, regardless of background, ability, race, or socioeconomic status. In many areas, Girl Scouts is the only leadership development program to which girls have access. As of 2020, Girl Scout Alum make up: 53% of female business leaders in the U.S. 69% of current female U.S. Senators 57% of women in the House of Representatives 100% of women who have served as U.S. secretary of state
