About This Cause

Since 1967, Greensboro Urban Ministry has worked to meet the needs of people in crisis in the greater Greensboro area. GUM's mission is to express the love of God to people in need through practical action. We accomplish this work through several key programs: • Emergency Assistance: rent, utility and food assistance • Weaver House: Shelter for 86 men and 14 women; Weaver House Extension (WE) sites: additional winter shelter beds provided through partnerships with local congregations • Pathways Center: Shelter for 16 families in studio apartments • Food Distribution: Food Pantry and Potter’s House Community Kitchen (open community lunch daily; breakfast and dinner provided for Weaver House shelter guests) • Beyond GUM: Case management for shelter guests, rehousing financial assistance • Partnership Village: transitional housing community for formerly homeless men, women and families; GUM provides rental subsidies for each unit, case management for residents and the Future Bound program for children • Care and support: Chaplaincy/Stephen Ministry
