Mission Statement
Built with love, the Ronald McDonald House of Durham offers a comforting home away from home and a community of support for seriously ill children and their families.
About This Cause
Ronald McDonald House supports seriously ill children and their families through 4 programs in Raleigh-Durham. RESIDENTIAL HOSPITALITY RMH welcomes the families of seriously ill children receiving critical-care treatment or follow-up at Duke and WakeMed Children's Hospitals, along with other nearby medical centers. Families generally travel at least 50 miles for treatment, making the daily commute for families difficult or impossible. RMH offers a safe, welcoming "home away from home" so families can worry less about finances and logistics and instead focus on their children's medical treatment. RMH welcomes up to 64 families each night in Raleigh-Durham. IN-HOSPITAL RESPITE SUPPORT RMH also assists parents and other caregivers through Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Duke and WakeMed Children's Hospitals. Through the Family Room programs, caregivers receive support so they in turn can better support their sick children. These in-hospital programs offer free meals, snacks, and coffee; laundry and shower facilities; and space for reflection -- all within steps of a child's hospital bed. Parents can recharge and refresh without leaving the pediatric floor. The RMH Family Room programs in Raleigh-Durham are open to the caregivers of all pediatric inpatients and host more than 25,000 caregiver visits each year.
