Mission Statement

Teen Health Connection is a non-profit healthcare practice that provides medical and mental healthcare and prevention and health education services for adolescents ages 11 to 22. We are a medical home that offers comprehensive, integrated healthcare services delivered by a multidisciplinary team of adolescent specialists in a safe, family-centered environment. We have provided more than 156,000 comprehensive healthcare visits since 1992. Thank you for your support of Teen Health Connection. About This Cause

Teen Health Connection has served adolescents and their families in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area for more than 30 years, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. The mission of Teen Health Connection is to improve the health of adolescents by providing physical and mental healthcare services, education, advocacy and research through connections with teens, parents and the community. Teen Health Connection is a healthcare practice that provides comprehensive, integrated healthcare services delivered by a multidisciplinary team of adolescent specialists in a safe, family-centered environment for ALL teens 11-22 years old. Services provided include: primary medical care; individual and family therapy; triage services for mental health and health education; and prevention and health education outreach with a focus on substance abuse prevention and teen pregnancy prevention. A variety of specialty services include: Independent Psychological Assessment (IPA) program for youth entering DSS custody and Parenting the Love and Logic Way©, a parenting curriculum for parents of teens. Teen Health Connection’s multidisciplinary team is comprised of: medical providers (including two physicians who are board-certified adolescent health specialists, with only 400 in the nation); licensed mental health clinicians (four rostered in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with only 48 in Mecklenburg County); a team of doctorate level psychologists; health educators, nurses, and clinic support staff. The following is a brief description of our services and programs: Medical: - Primary preventive physical healthcare - Vaccinations - Acute care (colds, acne, injuries) - Treatment for chronic illness (asthma, diabetes) - Nutrition and wellness guidance - Reproductive healthcare - Diagnostics Mental Health: On-site individual and family counseling to address: - Anxiety - Depression - Relational stress - Sleep problems - School performance issues - Weight and body image concerns Prevention and Health Education: - Parenting Classes - These free workshops empower parents to raise adolescents who are confident and motivated by giving participants practical skills that can be used immediately with adolescents ages 11-18. - Teen Advisory Board - 30 adolescents from 20 local high schools serve as Teen Advisory Board members who volunteer to participate in community outreach, lead public service projects and advocate for adolescent health issues. - Youth Drug Free Coalition - A multi-sector group of community volunteers whose expertise informs all of Teen Health Connection’s alcohol and substance abuse prevention and education initiatives. - The Big Picture - A dynamic community outreach initiative written and performed by and for adolescents that addresses the current trends and health-related issues facing teenagers today, with a focus on positive behavioral and health choices. Multiple performances take place over the course of a week including daytime school performances, a free community performance and a VIP event. In addition, Teen Health Connection produces a professional ethics conference and a youth leadership conference utilizing the themes in the show. The recipient of the Johnston Ziegler Scholarship, a merit-based award that recognizes a local high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, is announced at a performance. This scholarship is named in honor of Teen Health Connection’s founding Medical and Executive Directors. - Parent Guide to Teen Health - A booklet that covers adolescent “hot topics” and includes a directory of teen services in Mecklenburg County. - Monthly E-Newsletter - Information about monthly health topics and Teen Health Connection news. - Health Educators in the Community - Provide community-based education on a variety of adolescent health topics including: bullying, underage drinking, healthy relationships, goal setting for teens, pregnancy prevention, etc. Fundraising Events and Campaigns: - United Way and 3rd Party Support - Many businesses run workplace campaigns to give employees the opportunity to support organizations with causes that are close to their hearts. Teen Health Connection relies on this support to supplement our direct fundraising efforts. - Pay It Forward - This campaign enables Teen Health Connection to provide free parenting workshops and health education programs and materials to parents, adolescents and families. If you’d like to pay it forward by giving a gift that would allow others to access the services we provide, please go to www.teenhealthconnection.org and select GIVE. - Patient Assistance Fund - Donations to this fund are used exclusively to help Teen Health Connection patients by paying for prescriptions, bus passes, school supplies, etc. - In-Kind Support - Our patients and program participants can benefit from a wide variety of items including school supplies, movie, amusement park, sporting event and cultural tickets, restaurant gift certificates, water, snacks and retail gift cards. - Corporate Sponsorship and Underwriting - Sponsorship and underwriting support is needed for The Big Picture, Parenting classes and Summit for Teens.
