Mission Statement
Our mission is to ensure equal access to healthcare, mental health, and social services for all, regardless of national origin or language ability, through the advocacy, education, and direct multilingual services that we provide.
About This Cause
Bilingual International Assistant Services was founded by stateless refugee women in 2002 and has provided wrap-around mental health and social services to underserved foreign-born communities in St. Louis for the last 18 years. In 2016, the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma and the Places for People Faith Team merged with Bilingual International, enabling us to expand our existing service portfolio - especially to those newcomers who are survivors of state-sanctioned torture. Our multilingual, professional staff now offers a wide range of assistance including clinical mental health services to children and adults, citizenship and legal services, interpretation/translation, case management, health insurance counseling and enrollment, peer health coaching, and the state's first and only multicultural senior center specifically for older immigrants/refugees - Macklind International. We serve over 3,000 participants through our programming every year, and we continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the communities that now call St. Louis home. As we emerge from a global pandemic and a hostile climate for immigrants and refugees, we look to the St. Louis community to help us build back better. We will continue to accept new challenges and provide needed supports to New Americans still struggling to find solid footing. We need your help to do so.
