About This Cause
Warrior Films is a 501.c.3 non-profit film production company based in Oakland, CA. http://www.warriorfilms.org/frederick-marx/ Home of Frederick Marx - Academy and Emmy nominated filmmaker most known for HOOP DREAMS. Our mission: Bearing Witness, Creating Change. We make transformational films that transform lives, mostly documentaries for the commercial and educational markets. Our latest film RITES OF PASSAGE: MENTORING THE FUTURE aims to do for teen rites of passage and mentorship what Inconvenient Truth did for global warming -- bring it out of the underground into the international mainstream. In addition to creating the short film we have: • Created toolkits for six different user groups: o Parents o Faith-based organizations o High schools o Colleges and universities o Therapists, counselors, and psychologists o Youth Development Centers and Community Groups • Hired a part-time staff person to help the above groups and individuals implement the toolkits • Co-founded the organization YouthPassageways.org to support all the youth initiation and mentorship organizations that exist. A key cornerstone of WF is the DocuMentoring Studio where professional filmmakers mentor young people in all aspects of documentary production. The DocuMentoring Studio will achieve greatness and distinction by directing its future talents to make films by, for, and about the communities and community service organizations where they live.
