Mission Statement
I Challenge Myself’s youth development programs provide New York City public high school students opportunities to strengthen their bodies, minds and spirits. Our three non-competitive sports-based-youth development programs are: Cycling Smarts, 4-to-FIT and College Bike Tour. Each of our semester-length programs (Cycling Smarts and 4toFIT) are intended to teach students to reach beyond their perceived physical and mental limits and emerge on the other end confident, with a greater sense of self-worth, ready to take on the other challenges awaiting them in life. The College Bike Tour is designed to expose our students to, and educate them about, the college application and financial aid process, while creating a connection in their minds between undertaking and achieving the physical challenge of the tour with setting and accomplishing the goal of applying to and attending college.
About This Cause
I Challenge Myself finds itself at a critical growth phase as our cycling and fitness programs have: • helped over 3,000 at-risk NYC public high school students to be more physically active, stay in school and develop their ability to persevere • developed effective and low cost challenge based cycling and fitness programs that can serve as a model for systemic enhancement of NYC’s PE system and replication outside of NYC • developed multi-day college bike tour of colleges in upstate New York that help students to aspire, focus and prepare for college and life after high school Our next steps to realize our potential are to: 1. Triple the amount of students by expanding to four more schools by September 2017 and scale to additional schools in subsequent years 2. Grow ICM’s board from 5 to 12 board members by June 2017 3. Diversify funding by increasing individual, special events and earned revenue to fund infrastructure to support program and organizational growth
