Mission Statement
Two Bit Circus Foundation (2BCF) serves children in all economic situations by creating learning experiences to inspire entrepreneurship, encourage young inventors, and instill environmental stewardship. Our programs guide students to become problem solvers, critical thinkers and innovators, and to take agency over their education. We are committed to three overarching goals: 1) provide STEAM (STEM + art) resources to under-served schools and educators; 2) present STEAM principles in an environmentally-sustainable and playful manner; 3) nurture innovation, creativity, and critical thinking while inspiring environmental stewardship in the next generation of inventors.
About This Cause
2BCF provides affordable up-cycled materials and original, standards-aligned curriculum to PreK-12 STEM/STEAM classrooms in So. CA. 2BCF’s STEAM Lab Makerspace is in 200+ schools, over half of them Title I. We foster community through library-based coding workshops and school-district centered STEAM Carnivals. Internationally, 2BCF hosts Creativity Chapters, the Cardboard Challenge, and the Inventor's Challenge. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, 2BCF adapted all of its in-school curriculum to distance learning/teaching for live-streaming on digital platforms, available everywhere at no cost. 2BCF has: introduced over 300,000 students to STEM/STEAM and trained over 5,100 preK-12 teachers as we diverted over 600 tons of materials from California landfills. Our global Cardboard Challenge hosts over 1 M participants from 80 countries and we host over 150 Imagination chapters around the world. Our STEAM Carnivals have showcased over 8,500 students and welcomed over 45,000 attendees from around the country and in Perth, Australia and generated 225 million media and digital impressions. Our community Makerspace Program has hosted 16,540 community coding Workshops in 134 Library Branches to community members who have been 60% Low income, 53% Latino and 12% African American. As the pandemic forced us to scale back our in-person activities, we also became more innovative, introducing the 2BCF Afterschool Music program which distance-teaches students to produce and engineer their own songs, encouraging creativity and experimentation throughout the course. In just 17 years, Two Bit Circus Foundation has grown from a mom-and-pop non-profit to an internationally-known educational organization that addresses inequities in educational delivery, develops creative, standards-aligned preK-12 STEM/STEAM curriculum, inhabits the new frontier of distance learning/digital curriculum, and fosters imagination and creativity worldwide.
