Mission Statement
Homework House is a place where children growing up in Holyoke’s most economically challenged neighborhoods can experience learning success. Our free after school tutoring and mentoring program has transformed the lives of hundreds of kids, boosting their engagement with school and learning while improving their reading and math skills.
About This Cause
HOMEWORK HOUSE Inspiring/Supporting/Transforming At Homework House, we believe that all children are capable of academic success and will be prepared for the future if given the right tools and support. Homework House fosters higher academic achievement and supports positive mentoring relationships for children growing up in Holyoke’s most economically challenged neighborhoods. Homework House’s FREE, high quality after school and summer tutoring programs have transformed the lives of hundreds of Holyoke children improving their reading and math skills. But working on reading and math is only one part of the story! Homework House is so much more: we are a community of adults and children who work together to help each child realize his or her potential. With the assistance of their tutors, the children who attend Homework House make great strides in reading and math. In 2016, almost 70% of Homework House children exceeded reading growth expectations and 45% were reading at or above grade level by the end of the school year! Homework House serves almost 90 kids each day at our two sites with the help of 250 volunteer tutors annually. Homework House relies on contributions from those who care about the future of our children to bring our services to the community.
