Mission Statement
Burge Bird Rescue is a no-kill nonprofit shelter serving the Kansas City area, helping parrots, pigeons, domestic ducks, and other pet birds that need homes. We never euthanize or turn away a bird due to medical needs
About This Cause
Birds are the third most common pet, but very few shelters and rescues help these animals in the event they need a new home. Burge Bird Rescue helped over 300 birds last year, ranging from finches, parakeets, and canaries to cockatoos, amazons, and macaws. Unlike most bird rescues, we also take in injured pigeons, non-native wildlife such as sparrows and grackles, and unwanted pet ducks and chickens. Our volunteer team goes out to local ponds and captures abandoned domestic ducks that can't fly, and rescues them before they fall victim to predators or starvation.
