Mission Statement
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
About This Cause
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5-17. Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina currently serves 21 counties including Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Chesterfield, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, and Williamsburg. Today, GSESC serves over 3,000 girls and 2,700 adult members. Girl Scouting is dedicated to the growth and development of girls. Our primary service is to mobilize parents and communities to enable them to deliver the Girl Scout program. We recruit volunteers and provide them with training and support to help them understand the developmental needs and how to use the program to meet these needs. Girls meet with adult volunteers in a troop or group setting. Together they decide what activities they wish to pursue. This is the first step in learning to make choices and decisions in a democratic setting. By networking with volunteers in the community, Girl Scouts are able to further enhance programs and provide additional program facilities. This opportunity is possible due to a corps of over 3,700 volunteers and 24 employed staff. The GSESC staff provides all support services to facilitate the work of the volunteers and serves the Girl Scout membership of 5,000 girls, to include: recruitment and training of volunteers; serving at-risk youth through community partnerships, recruitment and programming; resident camping programs; conducting Girl Scout program events; membership recruitment and support; and providing opportunities for higher education through scholarships.
