Mission Statement

The mission of the Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

About This Cause

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, is to provide an outdoor educational program to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The Atlanta Area Council has provided the Scouting program to thirteen metro-Atlanta counties for more than 100 years. Cherokee County is one of the thirteen counties that the Council serves to develop leadership, civic engagement, and introduce career paths to youth. The Cub Scouts program is a year-round family and home centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys and girls ages 5-11. Scouts BSA is an outdoor adventure program for youth ages 11-17 designed to develop character, citizenship, leadership skills, and fitness. Exploring is a career education and leadership program for young men and women ages 14-20. In all of our programs, our goal is to reach as many youth and engage them in Scouting, including underserved areas and disadvantaged youth. Our Scoutreach initiative is the Council’s commitment to remove any barriers that might keep an interested child from joining Scouting regardless of their circumstances. We also focus on STEM/STEAM activities for our Youth.
