Mission Statement
The mission of The Family Y is to serve individuals and families in the CSRA through programs designed to build healthy spirit, mind, and body, reflecting the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition while maintaining respect for all people.
About This Cause
The YMCA of Augusta was chartered in 1858, making it one of the first eight YMCAs in America. In 1997, the local YMCA and YWCA merged to form The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta, now an association of ten branches (one of which is an Armed Services YMCA), an 88-acre resident camp, a licensed childcare center, and 32 before- and after-school childcare sites in two states. The Family Y serves over 50,000 members along with thousands of non-members throughout the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) who participate in a variety of programs that operate seasonally and include childcare, fitness for all ages, youth sports, aquatics, day camps, senior activities, and specialized classes and recreational opportunities for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. The Family Y of greater Augusta is the largest provider of subsidized childcare in the CSRA and is the only year-around provider of Adapted Aquatic programs for both adults and children. We remain committed to providing services to those who are unable to afford the fees. In 2014, the Family Y awarded more than $1.7 million in assistance for programs, memberships, and services to low-income individuals and families.
