Mission Statement
Radio Free Georgia Broadcasting - WRFG 89.3 FM is an independent, mission driven, progressive, community radio station staffed by an all-volunteer on-air staff. Our programming hosts diverse music and public affairs shows that always include an educational component. WRFG is a listener supported, 45 year old radio station that is licensed to operate at 100,000 watts.
About This Cause
Radio Free Georgia Broadcasting Foundation - WRFG 89.3 FM is a non-commercial, independent, diverse, progressive, nonprofit, community radio station. Our programming gives voice to community organizations, independent artists and cultural workers. We provide a forum through which ideas, music and issues, not heard on mainstream media, can help develop understanding and build bridges between people. Founded in 1973 and broadcasting from Atlanta, GA, WRFG has a long history of interviewing thousands of people, whose stories and talents would remain unheard if left only to commercial media interests. WRFG was the first station in the Greater Atlanta area to play international music from the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, India, Ireland, and was also the first local radio station to play hip-hop. We also help to keep many other genres alive and well, e.g. blues, bluegrass, R&B, gospel, folk, global soul, afrobeat, doo-wop, jazz, zydeco and a few more. Our public affairs programs span many issues about women, health, environment, LGBTQ, youth, poverty, animal rights, peace and justice. We also have special programming throughout the year on various topics that include listener input. For example, we broadcast The Homelessness Marathon, a Tribute to Bob Marley, Reparations.
