To preserve and interpret the history of transportation in North Carolina and to present this history in a manner which allows visitors to enjoy their experience as well as learn from it.

About This Cause

One of 27 N.C. state historic sites, the 60-acre museum was once the repair facility for Southern Railway's steam and later diesel locomotives. We offer an on-site train ride; 100,000 sf exhibit space featuring historically significant railroad, automobile/trucking, and aviation exhibits; hands-on educational programs and tours for multi-generational audiences; special programming for school groups; cultural and educational family-oriented events; behind-the-scenes look at restoration projects; scouting programs; on-site reenactment events; and special events such as Wine & Dine, The Polar Express Train Ride, Day Out With Thomas, etc.
