Mission Statement
Our Mission: To Inspire Dialogue and Drive Social Equity Through Artistic Excellence Our Vision: Changing Hearts and Minds through Music
About This Cause
Changing Hearts and Minds Through Music For Over 40 Years Voices of Note, the largest community music organization in the Southeast, is the umbrella organization consisting of the renowned Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus and Atlanta Women’s Chorus. Voices of Note is a catalyst for social change. It provides an opportunity to be inspired, a journey to places in hearts and minds that have yet to be explored, and a voyage into the perspective of our neighbors, teachers, siblings, and friends. Above all, Voices of Note believes that the most effective way to deliver the message of equality for all people is with music. Through music, we are changing hearts and minds. The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is one of the world’s longest-running gay men’s choruses. Founded by Jeffrey McIntyre in 1981, the AGMC has long been a catalyst for social change, providing an opportunity to be inspired and to journey into the perspectives of our LGBTQ+ community. The Atlanta Women’s Chorus is a talented, diverse group of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs. The AWC is led by Artistic Director Dr. Melissa Arasi, former assistant professor of music at Reinhardt University. The group began in 2013 as the Atlanta Women’s Project, a small ensemble sponsored by the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus (AGMC). In early 2014, the newly formed AWC presented its first full-length concert and is now an independent choral ensemble under the Voices of Note organizational umbrella. Today, over 200 talented and diverse singers comprise the two choruses; together, the volunteer members of the AGMC and AWC entertain thousands of gay and straight audience members from metro Atlanta and beyond, through their thought-provoking performances. Both choruses are members of the International Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA Choruses) and actively participate in collaborative performances and educational efforts with GALA Choruses member choruses worldwide.
