Mission Statement

NAMI Georgia empowers affiliates to provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

About This Cause

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is one of the nation's largest grassroots organizations dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Established in 1982, NAMI Georgia empowers local affiliates to provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. We envision a Georgia where all people affected by mental health illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares. With the unique understanding of people with lived experience with mental health conditions, we help erase stigma, increase understanding of the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, and enable people with mental health conditions to receive support. NAMI Georgia offers initiatives in communities across the state. NAMI Georgia works to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. We offer 11 mental health programs and 100 local peer and family support groups across Georgia that provide peer-led education programs, support groups, presentations, and training. Our programs serve youth, adults, and families in a peer-group setting, and we adapt our training for specific audiences, including health providers, law enforcement, educators, and many others. Additionally, NAMI Georgia advocates at the state level for access to treatment and services.
