About This Cause
Our shelter consists of a 3-12 month transitional living experience called The Next Step, where we invite homeless children and their moms into our facility. Our goals are to: 1) To provide a safe, family-friendly environment where Guests can focus on regaining stability; 2) To help children in our care swiftly establish a sense of normalcy while we help their moms acquire competencies and access services needed for recovery; and 3) To enable families to achieve and sustain stable housing with secure employment and at reduced risk for future homelessness. The purpose of our existence is to end the cycle of homelessness in the families we serve by providing a loving, nurturing, faith based environment for children who have experienced homelessness while helping their mothers get back on their feet. GCS serves homeless children (0-17 years) and their moms; homeless young women age 18 and older; and, homeless children with moms who have served in the armed forces. All of our mothers are single parents. Most are working full or part-time. Some even have college degrees. Some have come from abusive situations. Others simply fell behind on the rent, but all participants are actively homeless. We serve families who come from throughout the metro Atlanta area.
