Mission Statement

At BDI, we believe in an inclusive world where people of differing abilities can lead more independent and purposeful lives when provided the right guidance, support and opportunities. Our mission is to empower people with differing abilities to maximize their potential by securing economic self-sufficiency, independence and inclusion within their communities.

About This Cause

Mission and History Bobby Dodd Institute empowers people with differing abilities to maximize their potential by securing economic self-sufficiency, independence and inclusion within their communities. From our roots in facility-based training in the 1960s, BDI emerged as a workforce innovation leader – equipping people with skills and connecting them with jobs either in the community or through our mission-based social enterprises. We became an independent nonprofit in 1989 and purchased our home, the Robert J. Freeman Campus, a decade later. Since that time, we have expanded programs, added a training facility and programs in Clayton County, developed our mission-based businesses (referred to as social enterprises) including a call center in College Park, and forged demand-driven workforce initiatives with employers. In January 2018, the merger with All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) afforded us the opportunity to revisit our vision and mission. We believe that taking the time to reflect presents incredible paths for future growth. With this new approach, we are ensuring that participants receive the support they need every step of the way towards achieving their personal goals. Every member of BDI shares and lives this mission — every day. The merger resulted in consolidated services so that clients receive an un-fragmented path to services and supports instead of moving from one organization to another. Together, the experience of the two organizations was leveraged to provide counseling and opportunities for parents planning for their children’s education, job prospects, and benefits eligibility, while offering working age adults employment, improved benefits counseling, and long-term planning options. BDI became a one-stop shop for individuals seeking guidance, supports and opportunities to lead more independent and purposeful lives. Overview of Programs BDI now offers a continuum of support covering all ages, stages and levels of need for people with disabilities. This includes individuals with genetic and acquired disabilities, behavioral and/or developmental. While BDI’s services are focused primarily in the Greater Atlanta area, its 42 worksites employ those with differing abilities throughout GA, AL, FL and TN. In addition to the main office on the Upper Westside of Atlanta, BDI has two other campuses (Decatur and Jonesboro). BDI categorizes its programs under two main areas: empowerment and employment. Empowerment programs include: *Workforce Resources - evaluations, career planning, job readiness, job placement support and skills training *Family Support - provides brokerage services and assists with linkage of resources, vendors and funding for goods and services. These include individualized skills training, inclusive activities, medical and therapeutic supports, incontinent and medical supplies, and recreational camps *Benefits Navigation - assistance with transitional futures planning, securing government benefits (Medicaid and Social Security) and Georgia Community Trust (a pooled, special needs trust) *Behavioral Health - intensive case management, life skills training, and community integration Employment - BDI offers a wide range of business services to meet organizations’ needs. We partner with businesses, non-profits and government sectors to create jobs for those of all abilities, while providing high quality business solutions. Our four main service areas are: *Facilities Management - janitorial services, grounds maintenance, building repairs, stocking and general upkeep *Administrative Services - mailroom management *Call Centers and Switchboard - medical supply distribution call center, 911 call centers, VA switchboard operations *Supply Chain and Logistics - warehouse and storage services, packaging and fulfilment solutions
