Mission Statement

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History preserves the legacy of educator Lucy Craft Laney through art, history and the preservation of her home.

About This Cause

The Delta House Inc., dba Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Miss Lucy Craft Laney's invaluable and widespread influence inspired Delta House Inc. to purchase her former home in 1987. In June 1991, the house officially opened as The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and Conference Center. Guided tours through the museum's permanent exhibitions - the Lucy Craft Laney Exhibition, the Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Exhibition, the Alice Davis Collection, and the Augusta Ebony Collection - provide visitors with an overview of Black Augustans' contributions at the local, state, national and international levels. Rotating exhibitions featuring well-known and emerging artist, educational forums and presentations, community outreach programs, and programs for children through the Lucy Craft Laney Museum Children's Academy are also provided. Visitors to the museum can also enjoy the butterfly and period garden that surrounds the property.
