About This Cause
Services North Fulton is a private, non-profit 501 (C) (3) founded in 1991 to provide programs and services for the older adults who live in North Fulton County. We operate senior centers in Alpharetta, Atlanta, Milton, Roswell and Sandy Springs. All clients are served regardless of ability to pay. Senior Services is the only agency in north metro Atlanta dedicated to serving older adults. Our Mission is to provide services and support for seniors to enhance their quality of life and independence in our community. We serve older adults 60+ living in the cities of Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, Roswell, and Sandy Springs. Last year we provided services for almost 1,900 older adults either at one of our Senior Centers or through in-home services. Programs and Services: The Meals on Wheels (MOW) program uses volunteers to deliver meals each weekday. Our volunteers are often the only visitors a home bound older adult has on a given day, and they are trained to alert Senior Services if medical emergencies arise at the time of the delivery visit. A few years ago we launched our Meals On Wheels for Pets (MOWP) program. Our Transportation Options Program for Seniors (TOPS) takes older adults to medical appointments so that transportation is not a barrier to access for needed care. The program reduces the burden on family members and provides older adults with more control and independence. Our TOPS program is funded totally through grants and donations. At our seven Senior Centers, older adults participate in a wide variety of activities and outings that keep them socially involved and mentally stimulated. Social isolation has been linked to depression and an increased risk of death from conditions like heart disease. Our vibrant senior centers host wellness fairs and educational seminars as well as outings to area cultural events and retailers, while providing a hot nutritious lunch each weekday. Our Care Management staff oversees In-home Services such as Personal Care Assistance, Light Housekeeping (to tackle tasks that can be troublesome for an older adult living alone) and Respite Care (for family caregivers). Providing in-home services is critical for maintaining independent living in the community. These core programs, and events like our holiday Angel Tree and Days of Service ensure that older adults are not forgotten and have opportunities for inter-generational activities and involvement.
